A remote land situated
between Liguria, Emilia and Tuscany, which connects Parma
and La Spezia: this is la Lunigiana. Probably
many people don’t even realized that they have travelled
through this region who knows how many times to reach the
Tyrrhenian coast, to visit the important historic cities in
the centre of Italy, such as Florence and Rome, or to reach
far away destinations in the south of Italy; tourists passing
through Lunigiana have always done so as a means to get to
the seaside in Versilia and the Cinque Terre. The growing
capacity of accommodation and the tourist facilities, as well
as its strategic geographic position as far as mountains,
seaside and important historical cities as well as for its
natural beauties are concerned, have made Lunigiana
and important tourist destination

SUMMER
AND AUTUMN....
In summer you can grab the opportunity of tasting typical
local dishes and wines, and experience the warm welcome
of the local people at the village feasts, historical
events in ancient hamlets, cultural events linked to the
traditional book festival of Lunigiana, and concerts of
all types of music. In autumn the woods are quietly awoken
by nature lovers looking for mushrooms and chestnuts:
a genuine approach to a well-preserved and unspoiled natural
habitat. |

CASTLES
AND MOUNTAINS......
The medieval castles, villages and churches scattered
around the ancient Via Francigena which runs along River
Magra, are evidence of an ancient civilization still well-preserved
in this enchanting valley; for instance you can visit
and appreciate the mysterious pre-Romanesque “statue-stele”
exhibited in the Museum inside the castle of Pontremoli.
Surrounded by the Apennines, between Tuscany and Emilia,
Lunigiana offers a well-preserved and unspoiled natural
habitat: on foot through the old chestnut woods along
the many trekking itineraries, by mountain bike or on
horse back, canoeing or fishing along the River Magra
or other streams where the water is still limpid and fresh,
if you are lucky you might even catch a glance of fawns,
foxes, wild boars, hawks and golden eagles.
